MPX5161324: Forty French boys and girls aged between 9 - 11 from Boulogne are starting a fortnight's schooling at Cannonbury Primary School, Islington, London, N1. They came with forty Islington children who stayed with them in Boulogne, and in whose homes they will stay now. The exchange was the idea of Mrs Hilda Wurr headmistress of Cannonbury School where all the children are taught French from the age of 8. In Boulogne the English children had tuition all in French at the Ecole Cary for boys and girls at the Ecole Frederic Sauvage. But now it is the turn of the French children to have their lessons in English in a double mixed class with English boys and girls. Among her sound effects are gongs, chains, bottles, empty beer cans, a piece of plate glass, dustbin lid, a hot-plate, electric light bulbs, a full coca cola bottle, axe, door and indian bells, butter for sizzling, ancient cymbals, a siren, toy guns, masks, human cello, amplifier, taped and recorded sound, mating call of a duck and her cello. MPX5161391: These green-fingered Newsome Cubs, pictured with Venture Scout Daniel Pedder, did a spot of gardening at a local old people's home ready for a fund-raising open day at the weekend. There were plenty of willing volunteers when care assistant Mrs Sylvia Hallas asked for help to clean up the grounds at Castle Grange, Newsome, for Saturday's open day.
