The apparatus is a scoop net capable of lifting a person out of the sea as a helicopter moves overhead at walking pace. It is being supplied to aircraft carriers, to Naval Air Stations at home and abroad, and will be of great value in rescuing injured and unconscious people who might be further injured if lifted by means of a harness strapped round their waist. The new device was invented by the Commanding Officer of the Air/Sea Rescue Unit at Ford, Sussex, (Lieutenant-Commander John Sproule, R.N.).
