ZUM4894916: Nov. 11, 1953 - Miners Dig No Coal British coal miners do a shift which lasts only 30 minutes, in a coal mine which contains no coal. They are patients at the Northumberland Miners' Rehabilitation Center, at Hartford Hall, England, which in addition to the usual treatments and recreations, offers patients a model mine. Here the men are put to a final test by moving around piles of stones which substitute for the coal they will have to lift when they are back on the job. Pictures shows: - TOP: A group of patients on their way back from a shift at the model mine. Bottom: At work in the mine the men move stones into pit tubs which are trundled to another part of the mine. There the stones are unloaded and packed ready for the next shift. / Bridgeman Images
