Inaugurated in 1977, the Georges Pompidou Centre houses the National Museum of Modern Art, the Industrial Creation Centre, the Department of Cultural Development and the Public Information Library (BPI). In the foreground, inaugurated in March 1983, the fountain in tribute to Igor Stravinsky, consists of aluminum and steel sculptures painted in black and electric motors by Jean Tinguely (1925-1991).
