PCT4260194: Scene aboard Saint-Michel 3, the last boat has by Jules Verne. The writer made several cruises aboard this ship purchased in 1877. In 1881 he sailed in the waters of Holland, Germany, and Denmark with his brother Paul. The latter described this journey in a story entitled “From Rotterdam to Copenhagen” and illustrated by Riou. The present engraving is taken from this story, slips at the end of the novel La Jangada in the Hetzel editions. He had had time to jump to the ground, but his servant fell with the car into the pit bordering the road, without hurting himself. This advertisement, published in the youth press (especially in Daniel Filipacchi's famous magazine “Salute les buddies””), encourages teenagers to start smoking and offer cigarettes, thus practicing “the art of pleasing”.
