A local brand of explosive, known as Fenny Poppers, have been set off every November 11th since 1730 by the towns people of Fenny Stratford, a lively village in Buckinghamshire. Squire Brown Willis of Whaddon Hall started the custom several centuries ago by providing in his will for a perpetual fund to pay for the annual celebrations. In view of a crowd of Fenny Stratford townspeople, the Vicar of St. Martin’s Rev. C. A. Wheeler, sets off the Poppers, c. 1950 (b/w photo)
