The United States claims damages from the British government as a result of the damage caused to the Nordic trade during the Secession War, notably by the English ship “Alabama”. The members of the court are represented from left to right: the Italian Federico Sclopis di Salerano (1798-1878), the Swiss Jakob Stampfli (1820-1879), the American Charles Francis Adams (1807-1886), the English Sir Alexander Cockburn (1802-1880) and the Brazilian Marcos Antonio d'Araujo, Baron Itajuba (18442 1897).
