MPX5164918: Dirrell Moss and his family. Mr Moss is a house painter by trade and lives in the Jonestown district of Kingston. With no regular work in Jamaica for Dirrel he has decided to emigrate with his family to the United Kingdom. In 1961 some 30,000 Jamaican's journeyed to Britain in search of work, wealth and happiness. Now in 1962 the flood tide has reduced to a trickle due to the introduction of the Commonwealth Immigrants Act. A limited number only are allowed in - and these must have a vouchers issued by the British Government. Dirrell and his family have been lucky and have been approved as immigrants and will soon be leaving their single storey shack home in Jonestown, Jamaica to journey to London. 2nd August 1962 (b/w photo) / Bridgeman Images
MPX5165018: The doctor in charge of the casualty department at Middlesex Hospital turned away a 20 year old hospital orderly as he was not considered an emergency. So 20 year old Patrick Tood was unable to get home owing to his injured foot and no money.
