ZUM4830532: Tue. 11, 1953 - Work Progresses On The Statues Of” Gog” And” Magog” For Return To The Guildhall: Work nears completion at the Welwyn Evans - on the new statues of the famous Guildhall” Gog” and” Magog” - which are to replace the triginals which were destroyed by German fire-bombs in 1940. The statues are 9ft.3 ins. in height (the originals were 14 ft). The sculpture is being financed by Sir George Wilkinson, former Lord Mayor of London - and the statues are to be placed in position in time for Coronation Day / Bridgeman Images

In according to the 750 year custom, two top hatted men carrying brooms, swept the streets as they went in front of the procession.
