Jan. 01, 1955 - Jan Kiepura opposes British income tax demands, famous singer in Vienna - The world famous singer Jan Kiepura who now has United States Citizenship, is to oppose the United Kingdom Income Tax demands made upon him and which have resulted in an announcement in the London Gazette of the filing of bankruptcy petition against him. The singer, in an interview in Vienna declared that the income tax demanded from him is from an amount which he lost when he left Poland penniless during the war, leaving a fortune behind him. He says that he is to make a counter-claim at the International Court for refund of installments paid him from profits made after the war to reduce the British revenue claims.
