MPX5077000: Salmon fishing on the River Severn is carried on by the same method as has been in existence for hundreds of years. Putchers which look like trumpets made of wicker, are placed in the river by hundreds and when the salmon come up the river to spawn they enter one end of the putcher and because they will not go backwards they struggle to get out of the small hole the other end and eventually drown themselves.
