Porter Wally Lawes of Euston Station London was left holding the baby, 1 year old Deidre, after her parents Mr and Mrs O Hara departed for Manchester on the train. Mr O'Hara had left his wife and daughter to get tickets, he was delayed so Mrs O'Hara went to look for him. As the train began to leave, the Porter found the baby alone and grabbed her and the luggage off the train. At the same time the parents jumped back on the train and left the station. They pulled the emergency cord and when the train stopped they walked back to Euston - luckily as the next stop was 177 miles away! Wally looked after Deidre until they returned. 20th January 1967
