MPX5096632: World War II Home Front: Brother Douglas who is chaplain of the Westminster YMCA Hostel on the site of the old Westminster Hospital. Has on the roof of the hostel some chickens, and small box garden where he grows onions, lettuce, etc. He has one particular chicken called Blondine, a female Blondine, the tight rope walker, because every time it comes on the roof she flies on the rail and waits for him to feed her. There is a huge drop to the ground and once Blondine missed her footing and flew straight down into the roadway. Brother Douglas went and picked her up quite unhurt and two hours later she laid an egg on the roof. This roof is under the shadow of the Abbey.
