MPX5090934: The Good Samaritans stand on parade in a hospital ward. They are some of the volunteers who stopped a small hospital from shutting down. They came to the rescue of matron Miss Queenie Graham after only two nurses turned up for duty. Most of her staff of 31 were victims of the flu epidemic which has hit Merseyside. But willing hands were ready when the call went out for helpers. Nearly 50 offers flooded the switchboard at the 50 bed Sir Alfred Jones Memorial Hospital, at Garston, Liverpool. MPX5091632: Uniform Expo '70 Hostesses: On show to the public today for the first time, was the uniform to be worn by the six British and 14 Japanese hostesses employed on guide and escort duties in the British Pavilion at Expo '70 which opens at Osaka, Japan, in March. The clothes and accessories were chosen from Marks and Spencer's St. Michael range for next spring. Modelling the uniform for the press, was 20 year old Miss Lydia V. MPX5091731: David Frost Racing Driver: David Frost, TV personality is to drive in the first motor race at BrandÍs Hatch on Saturday. David will be amongst over prominent people who will line up on the starting grid in the personalities race at the John Player Grand Prix. MPX5091840: Part of the Coldstream Guards Band went to the children's ward at St. Thomas's London, and played their band music to the kiddies. The soldiers played Christmas Carols and happy marches. Some of the children even played some of the musical instruments. The nurses, children and soldiers joined in musical chairs. Then they all had tea, and the Tots Tattoo drew to a close. Leading the musical chairs is Hamid Shobali from Saudi Arabia who is being treated for deformity of the feet. The treatment is in the form of progress correction. December 1969 / Bridgeman Images
