Gulliver, all 21ft of him, weighing 6cwt, made of metal, needed a crane to start him on his journey from Cheyney Walk in Chelsea to Tokyo, Japan. Gulliver is the metal creation by cartoonist, artist, Gerald Scarfe and is one of twelve characters that Gerald is making for the British Pavilion at the Expo '70 to be held in Tokyo in March. The metal monster took Gerald three months to put together, using welding apparatus, he made is in the garden of his home in Chelsea in two halves and each half had to be hoisted by crane from the garden, over two garden walls to the side road where it was packed away into large crates. The other characters that Mr. Scarfe will be working on are Hamlet, MacBeth, Robinson Crusoe, Samuel Johnson, Long John Silver, Pick Wick, Alice 'thru the looking glass, Oliver, Shakespeare, James Bond and My Fair Lady.
