ZUM4830340: Tue. 09, 1953 - Two Heroes of the Sea Left Carlsen of the” Enterprise” - Baltaji of the” Chaepol Ion”: Two heroes of the sea met at Lebanese port recently. They were Captain Carlsen of the” Flying Enterprise” fame - and Rad wan Baltaji the port pilot who made three trips to the sinking liner” Champollion” in heavy seas when she ran aground off the Lebanese coast last December. He rescued about 50 people on each of his trips in spite of seas which were getting heavier each time. After that he got a smaller boat - which was easier to manage and made three trips to rescue about another 40 people. On the third trip the tiny boat - carrying thirteen survivors capsized twelve were rescued and one a little boy - died / Bridgeman Images
ZUM4830842: Tue. 17, 1953 - Girl Guide Leaders Arrive From Germany. A group of 21 Guiders (adult leaders) from Germany, have been invited to this country by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts to undertake a course of training. Ten are already in this country, and the remaining fifteen (three of whom are D.P. Guiders in Germany) arrived at Victoria today. Their stay will last a month - two weeks will be spent in training - and the remaining fortnight will be spent with private families when they will have an opportunity to attend local meetings of Guide or Ranger Companies and Brownie Packs.
