ZUM4943441: Oct. 10, 1954 - TRIESTE AGREEMENT TODAY AFTER LONDON TALKS - After months of secret negotiation in London agreement has been reached on the future of Trieste. The agreement was initialled in London today by the Italian and Yugoslav Ambassadors, Signor Brosio and Mr. Velebit. It means that British and American forces which have been in Trieste since the end of the war, will be withdrawn. Zone “” A”” of the Free Territory of Trieste, including the city of Trieste, will go to Italy, with certain frontier rectifications. Zone “” B””” will go to Yugoslavia, which has occupied and administered it since the war. Trieste will become a free port, serving not only Yugoslavia but Austria / Bridgeman Images
ZUM4943670: Oct. 10, 1954 - Admiral Mountbatten says farewell to president Tito: Admiral the earl Mounbatten of Buran, K.G., K.C.B., G.C.V.O., G.M.S.I., D.S.O, flying his flag in the dispaton vessel Surprise, arrived off the island of Brioni, Yugaslavia, recently. After firing a personal salute to president Tito on the North Side of the Island in sight of the President's House, H.M.S. surprise are horde off the harbor on the South side of the island. Admiral Mountbatten was paying a farewell call on president Tito before relinguishing his command of the Mediterranean Flest later this year. Admiral Mountbatten, accompanied by his personal staff, and Mr. John Shattock, H.M. charge D'Affaires at Belgrade, landed and proceeded to the president's House for his official Call.
