This was the scene just over a minute into the 1973 British Grand Prix race. South African Jody Schekter lost control and spun across the track after the tyre burst on his McLaren at Woodcote Corner. Drivers crashed together at a combine speed of 170 mph. Miraculously only one driver was hurt - a broken ankle.
