Mr. Evans - who comes from Menchester (originally) is the artist who worked on the new productions of “Gog and Magog” which are to replece these ruined by bombs - at the Guildhall.

Apr. 04, 1953 -” Emanato, The Market Woman” Native Statue For Western Nigerian City: benin City Native, Western Nigeria, at the suggestion of the OBA OF BENIN, has commissioned a statue of Emanato, a Beni market woman of the 15th. century, revered by the Benin people for her humanitarian work and love of children. It sis to be erected over her grave near the mar ~ et place in Benin. The sculptor is Mr. John Danford, who is the British Council's Regional Director in the Western Province of Nigeria. He is working on the statue which is 6 ft. tall - in A Chelsea studio. It is to be cast in bronze

Tue 03, 1953 - The latest British Expedition to Mount Everest is on the way to their base at Namche Bazaar which is 160 miles from Bhatgaon, at the foot of the mountain. They were accompanied to Namche Bazaar by men and women - native partners - all carrying 40 pound bundles. Everest is so for unconquered - and in their attempt, whether it is successful or not, the expedition members will suffers extreme hardships - pain, exhaustion, frost bite, possible loas of limbs or the prospect of life long injury. To conquer the mountain they must live in air so thin that even walking is agony. Keystone Photo Shows: Some of the expedition porters with their loads, moving off from Bhatgaon, which was the temporary supply headquarters of the expedition.

The fishing boat Thailand, which was seized with the others, broke away, and arrived back at Bornholm, the Danish island today. No official statement on either side has linked the seizure with the detention of the Russian-built jet fighter whose Polish pilot asked for political asylum in Denmark, but Bornholm fisherman said it was a reprisal
