MPX5081735: Stray Guards The Queen's Gift: Willie the puppy seemed quite at home in a hotel on Thursday(25-11-71) sitting guard over a gift from the Queen. But for Willie, a three-month-old stray, it was really a far cry from home - the Dogs' Home at Battersea, London. Instead of the usual doggy Pandemonium, he was surrounded by expensive objects and works of art - all given by animal lovers. They included the Queen, whose gift of a silver owl inkwell once belonged to Queen Victoria. The gifts were sold by auction at London's Portman Hotel... in aid of Willie and his 3,000 stray mates back at the home.
