FLO4576551: Flying machine built by Jacob Degen, a clockmaker from Vienna (the ornithoptere, a flying machine built by Jacob Degen, a kind of helicopter driven by muscular force, he performed several free flights between 1806 and 1813). Degen made his first attempt in his tethered ornithopter in the spring of 1808, aided by a counterweight, and rose to 54 feet. He later added a balloon to his machine and flew several times on November 12 and 15, 1808.
