MPX5145233: The Tottenham Hotspur team and substitutes who will go to Wembley to play in the FA Cup match against Chelsea, were busy training at their Cheshunt grounds this morning. After the team photograph was taken it was training as usual. A goalkeeper's nightmare, Pat Jennings can take his choice at any one of the balls coming at him. May 1967 (photo) / Bridgeman Images
MPX5145276: Tottenham Hotspur Manager Bill Nicholson publicly pinned his faith in his players yesterday (Wednesday 11-12-63) - and privately stepped up the search for new strength. Inside a month he has lost both wing halves - the heart of a great side. Danny Blanchflower can no longer cope, and a specialist's report on his knee injury will probably be the first step towards retirement. Now Dave Mackay will miss the rest of this season's championship challenge after breaking his leg at Old Trafford on Tuesday (10-12-63) when playing against Manchester United in the European Cup Winners' Cup. But Nicholson's answer is a firm: "We shall not panic. We shall not buy for the sake of buying. Mackay's injury is a tremendous blow to us but it's not the end of the world. My biggest headache for months has not been my team, but the constant and so far unsuccessful search to find players to back them up. A broken leg can't keep Dave Mackay down! He was in cheerful mood when Spurs team-mates Terry Dyson (left) and Bobby Smith called at his Enfield home. Dave's children are Valerie, 4, and Derek, 6. December 1963 (photo) / Bridgeman Images
