Biography
Fra Angelico, born Guido di Pietro, was an Italian painter of the early Renaissance period. He was born in Vicchio, Tuscany, in 1395 and entered the Dominican order at the age of 20, taking the name Giovanni da Fiesole. He spent most of his life in Florence, where he worked as a painter and fresco artist. Fra Angelico's art was characterized by its religious themes and its use of bright colors and delicate details. He was known for his ability to create a sense of serenity and spirituality in his paintings, which often depicted scenes from the lives of Christ and the saints. Some of his most famous works include the frescoes in the San Marco monastery in Florence and the altarpiece in the church of Santa Maria Novella. Fra Angelico died in Rome in 1455 and was later beatified by the Catholic Church.
