His name was not on the official list of invitations, and he would not say why he was there. When Mr and Mrs. Dawson arrived officials f the British Council for the Promotion of Trade, who organised the party, were surprised. “I would like to see Britain doing business with the Chinese. If we don't, America will” Mr. Dawson said. After supper he buttonholed Mr. Wong Tsiao, a member of the delegation.
