Over 100 feet above the ground Charles Legg calmly goes about pruning and trimming a tree. But no ordinary tree! For Charles is an assistant at the unique roof garden on Derry and Toms in Kensington High Street. Strong cross winds can sometimes be a problem with a job like this, but the sheer drop seven floors down does not worry Charles at all. The gardens, 1 3/4acres in extent, are very ocular with tourists and residents, as well as shoppers. Before he retired , a local vicar visited there every day for thirteen years to wryte his sermons. 12th September 1965 (b/w photo)
