Helping to wash the smalls. Ann Dowling aged 4 and Pauline Carey aged 2 1/2, have found a job they really like. They have seen the maid washing the bibs, knickers and overalls at the Hampstead Day Nursery where they attend, and they have been allowed to try their hand with the bibs as a play game. So keen and efficient have they become that these little washerwomen are allowed to do all the bibs, and now they want to do more knickers, but Matron limits their work to 1 hour daily. They are economical with the soap and need no machine to do the wringing out. August 1947 P012147

Children at play on Bridlington sands are thrilld at the sight of the RAF helicopter swooping over the beach, and a man is swiftly lowered to the beach. They little realise that what they are seeing is a practise for a rescue which might save one of their lives. This is a rare sight, for rescue helicopters do not normally land survivors on the beach except in emergency. July 1960 P012688
