MPX5080127: A massive blast ripped apart an entire village late on Saturday afternoon, 1st June 1974. At least 29 people died and 100 houses were wrecked when an explosion shook the Nypro chemical plant at the Lincolnshire village of Flixborough. 3,000 people were evacuated as firemen tried to prevent an escape of poisonous gas from ammonia tanks, seven miles away in Scunthorpe flying glass caused injuries and homes shook thirty miles away.
