Following the spate of airliner hijackings by Arab guerillas on Sunday (6-9-70), airlines all over the world have been having another look at their security arrangements, and tightening up where possible. British Oversea Airways Corporation are no exception. British aircraft are particularly threatened with hijacking attempts as hijacker Leila Khaled is being held in custody in Britain following her abortive attempt to sieze an Israeli El Al Boeing 707. The British Government have been presented with an ultimatum by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, demanding Leila's release. BOAC have installed a new detection device at London's Heathrow Airport on Monday (7-9-70). The device sounds an alarm if a passenger is a carrying a metal object - like a bomb. BOAC passenger Sandra Hook tests the new anti-hijacking device at Heathrow. September 1970
