MPX5067613: It was the most exciting, star-studded opening night for years. The occasion - the world premiere of "Oh! What a lovely war," Richard Attenborough's first film as a director. And oh! What a night it was on Thursday (10-4-69). So many stars had turned up that they had to queue at the Paramount cinema in Piccadilly Circus, London. Outside the cinema hundreds of people gathered to watch the celebrities arrive. There were gasps at the glittering array of clothes. Like the matching white outfits with gold trimmings worn by David Hemmings and his wife Gayle Hunnicutt. Director Richard Attenborough, his wife, actress Sheila Sim and their two daughters Jane, 13, and Charlotte, 9, arriving at the Paramount Cinema for the premiere of "Oh! what a Lovely War", Richard's first as a director.
