Knight of the Teutonic Order and Knight of Malta in costume to make wishes. The Teutonic knights were a medieval military order. His history was nomadic, his cradle was Acre in Palestine (1190-1309), then Marienburg in Prussia (1309-1525), where he developed his military supremacy, and finally settled in Vienna (Austria), as a purely hospital order. The Order of Malta came from the Knights Hospitaller, a military order founded in 1099 to treat the pelerins in Palestine. After their expulsion from the Holy Land, the order settled on the island of Rhodes (1310-1523) until it settled in Malta in 1530. The order ruled the island until 1798. Hand-coloured copper engraving, in “Images historiques des costumes des principaux peuples de l'Antiquite et du Middle Ages” by Robert Von Spalart, published in 1796.
