Photographed on Monday 4th August 1930 it brought Amy Johnson back to the UK after her recording breaking solo flight to Australia in May. She had left Croydon on 5 May and arrived in Australia on 24 May, a flight of 11,000 miles; she was the first woman to make the trip alone. / Bridgeman Images
MPX5098660: R100 on her maiden flight in the morning of 16 December 1929 After departing Howden she flew slowly to York then set course for the Royal Airship Works at Cardington, Bedfordshire, cruising at around 50 mph (80 km/h) on four engines, and reached Cardington in two hours flight time. MPX5098730: Albert Flies to a New Life at 100: Mr. Albert Wedlake waved goodbye to Britain yesterday (Thursday 10-2-66) and flew to America to start a new life- at the age of 100. He is going to live in Detroit with his 66-year-old son, Mr. Jim Wedlake. Five relatives who flew to Britain for Mr. Wedlakeês 100th birthday traveled back with him yesterday when he left by jet from London Airport. Mr. Wedlake, of Penzance, Cornwall, was a tailor. He has lived alone for 18 years. Until recently he walked five miles every day to keep fit. Mr. Wedlake's nephew, Mr. Austin Dredge, 66, said: "The doctors say he has the constitution of a man of seventy.
