Biography
Hilary Simon trained as a theatre and costume designer. She has worked in the theatre, television and film industry and is currently working as costume supervisor at GMTV Breakfast Television. She has developed skills in other media including paintings on ceramics, designing murals on tiles, designing greeting cards, gift wraps and posters. She also organises workshops for silk painting and tile painting. Her passion for textiles and colour inspired her to visit Guatemala in the summer of 1993, her interest being the traditional weaving of the Mayan Indians. She spent her time visiting weavers of the central highlands. She found the volcanos, mountains and luscious vegetation contrasted with the brilliance and colour of the costumes of the people. Her paintings reflect these aspects and are a vibrant celebration of the country.
