Jean-Francois Millet (b.1814 d.1875) was a French artist known for his paintings of peasant farmers. Millet was one of the founders of the Barbizon school, who played a huge role in establishing realism in French landscape painting. Millet primarily focused on depicting rural labourers in the area around Barbizon. His work can be considered as part of the realist movement.
