Biography
Leon Spilliaert was a Belgian artist born in Ostend in 1881. He was a self-taught artist who began drawing and painting at a young age. Spilliaert's work is characterized by his use of dark colors and his interest in the play of light and shadow. He was also known for his use of symbolism and his exploration of the subconscious mind. Spilliaert's work was influenced by the Symbolist movement and the work of artists such as James Ensor and Edvard Munch. He exhibited his work in Belgium and France and was recognized for his contributions to the art world. Spilliaert died in 1946, leaving behind a legacy of innovative and thought-provoking art.
