Camille Pissarro (b. 1830 d. 1903) was a Danish-French Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist painter. He was born in St Thomas, then a Danish possession, in the West Indies but subsequently lived and worked in the Paris area. He made significant contributions to Impressionism. His work is informed by great previous artists including Gustave Courbet and Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot. He preceded the major Post-Impressionists: Cézanne, Seurat, Gauguin, and Van Gogh. He predominantly depicted landscapes in his paintings.
