Biography
Alessandro di Mariano di Vanni Filipepi (d. 1510), better known as Sandro Botticelli, was an Italian painter of the Early Renaissance. His large mythological paintings were greatly successful during his lifetime. Despite this, his reputation was negative until the late 19th century, when he was rediscovered by the Pre-Raphaelites who brought on a reappraisal of his work.
