Kathe Schmidt Kollwitz was a German artist born in 1867 in Konigsberg, East Prussia. She studied art in Berlin and Munich and became known for her powerful and emotional works, often depicting the struggles of the working class and the horrors of war. Kollwitz was a member of the Berlin Secession and the Novembergruppe, and her work was exhibited internationally. She was also a committed socialist and pacifist, and her art reflected her political beliefs. Kollwitz's most famous works include the series of prints "The Weavers" and the sculpture "Mother with her Dead Son." She died in 1945 in Moritzburg, Germany, just weeks before the end of World War II. Today, Kollwitz is considered one of the most important German artists of the 20th century, and her work continues to inspire and move viewers around the world.
