Biography
Judy Joel is a self-taught artist whose paintings are now in collections throughout the world, with many reproduced in print as cards and as limited editions. Born in Putney in 1946, she was educated in Bognor Regis, near Chichester. She worked at Chichester Festival Theatre, thence joining the BBC in 1965 as a Production Assistant where she met her husband, a Production Designer. From early childhood Judy had a natural aptitude and talent for portraying her surroundings in a charming, direct and naïve way. Her paintings are filled with warmth and spontaneity. Most of her work is commissioned and features private houses, famous landmarks, schools, weddings and favourite locations. Judy's’s trademarks are her mouse signature and the white-haired figure of her mother with a dog, which are found in every painting. Judy and her husband now live in the Cornish fishing village of Mousehole.
