Biography
John Gubbins is a self-taught painter who can claim John Constable and Myles Birket Foster as ancestors. He lives in the Scottish Borders where he gains much of the inspiration for his work. His watercolours are botanically accurate in an artistic context.

He is well known for his wild flower and butterfly paintings and more especially for his ‘Personalised Weeds’, a field in which he has built up an impressive nationwide clientele. These are commissioned watercolour paintings of houses, favourite salmon pools, duck flighting, ponds or similar features which form the central subject of the painting. Wild flowers, garden plants, trees, insects, dogs and small mammals of particular interest to the owner form the surround, thereby creating a work which as well as being a permanent record, conveys the feeling of the owners environment.

He travels extensively fulfilling these commissions all over the UK and Europe. His paintings have been exhibited in London, Edinburgh, the Home Counties at many CLA Game Fairs and are in many private collections.
