(1907-89)<br> Charles McCall was born in Edinburgh in 1907. Aged twenty-three he won a two-year scholarship to Edinburgh College, completing a four year course in two years, studying under D.M. Sutherland and the famous colourist S.J. Peploe. The diploma was followed by two further scholarships which included an extensive tour of Europe and study under Orthon Friesz at the Academie Colarossi, Paris.<br> <br> Many of his one man shows have been mounted on both sides of the Atlantic and a film of McCall’s life and work was made by BBC Scotland and shown in 1975. Charles McCall died in 1989.<br>
