- Studied at the Academy of Art, Prague. He came into contact with the work of Manet, Renoir, and Degas while travelling in France 1911-1912, and began producing mature work around 1915. He focused on landscapes and the female figure, producing a series of paintings from 1916-1918 depicting women dancing. Later works show a tendency toward Neo-classicism and Fauvist color schemes.
