Biography
George Stubbs (b. 1724 d.1806) was a British painter who is well known for his paintings of animals, in particular horses. His interest in anatomy helped him to become one of the leading painters of horses. Stubbs' Anatomy of the Horse (1766) went on to become a major reference work for artists. His work Whistlejacket, on display at The National Gallery in London, illustrates his incredible knowledge of anatomy which was unmatched among British artists of the time.
