Renzo Piano is an Italian architect and designer born in Genoa in 1937. He is known for his innovative and sustainable designs, which have earned him numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. Piano studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano and later worked for the architect Louis Kahn in Philadelphia. In 1971, he founded his own firm, the Renzo Piano Building Workshop, which has since become one of the most respected architectural practices in the world. Some of his most notable works include the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Shard in London, and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City. Piano is also a keen pianist and has designed several concert halls and music venues, including the Parco della Musica in Rome. He has been awarded numerous honors, including the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1998 and the Royal Gold Medal from the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1989.
