Childe Frederick Hassam was an American Impressionist painter born in 1859 in Boston, Massachusetts. He studied at the Boston Art Club and later at the Académie Julian in Paris. Hassam was known for his vibrant and colorful paintings of urban and coastal scenes, often depicting the bustling streets of New York City and the tranquil landscapes of New England. He was a member of the Ten American Painters, a group of artists who sought to promote Impressionism in the United States. Hassam's work was heavily influenced by the French Impressionists, particularly Claude Monet, and he often used a loose brushstroke and bright colors to capture the effects of light and atmosphere. He was a prolific artist, producing over 3,000 paintings during his lifetime. Hassam died in 1935 in East Hampton, New York, leaving behind a legacy as one of America's most important Impressionist painters.
