Connecticut-based artist Mark Maritato brings military historical events alive on his canvases. "I am very thankful to be able to combine my two passions of painting with the study of history and material culture through my work." At a young age his love for art and history led Mr. Maritato to pursue a career as an artist. It was during his formal training in painting and illustration at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, where Mr. Maritato first began to paint subjects of the American Civil War period. Mr. Maritato’s original oil paintings are renowned among private collectors and public institutions for their high degree of quality as well as attention to detail. Every painting Mr. Maritato creates starts with months, or sometimes years of research in order to ensure that even the smallest of details are depicted with accuracy.
