John Singer Sargent (b. 1856 d. 1925) was an American expatriate artist with roots in New England, often considered to be the leading portrait painter of his generation. His work depicted Edwardian-era luxury. Throughout his career, he created around 900 oil paintings, 2,000 watercolours, countless sketches and charcoal drawings.
