An intimate and unfinished painting depicting the poet Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867) and his muse mistress Apollonie Aglae Sabatier (1822-1889), known as the president who hosted a worldly salon in 19th century Paris. The hugging of lovers and the luminous whiteness of the woman's body confers to the canvas an eroticism daring for the period, sensuality reinforced by the pose of the woman that recalls the mythological theme of Leda.
