Thomas Gainsborough RA FSRA (b. 1727 d. 1788) was a prominent English portrait and landscape painter, draughtsman, and printmaker. He is widely considered to be one of the most important British artists of the 18th century, even one of the first to consistently paint landscapes. His work is distinguished by its feathery brushwork technique and rich colour palette.
