Biography
John James Audubon (b.1785 d.1851) was an ornithologist and artist known for his drawings and paintings of North American birds. He published his illustrations between 1827 and 1838 as The Birds of America. His work inspired the founding of the National Audubon Society, which works to help preserve birds and wild animals. Audubon's personal history concerning slavery means he is a controversial figure in American History.
