Biography
(1904-1990)
Dring’s work is loyal to the classical tradition propagated by artists such as Harold Harvey and Harold Knight, displaying both skilful draftsmanship and an expert handling of light effects. Three elements: strong light, an attention to the figure within its surroundings and an ability to realise the dignity of daily pursuits recur throughout Dring’s paintings.

Dring’s social conscience, and his respect for the worker, contribute to the balance between the romantic and the prosaic which we find in his art. His work is sophisticated yet understated, and his depictions of different sectors of society share a sympathetic realism and authenticity.
